Here, in antebellum Roswell, Georgia, a real Southern Belle grew up, was married in her family’s white-columned home, and later became the mother of a U.S. President. Here, gallant soldiers rode through the countryside. And, it was here that Union troops occupied the mansions as their headquarters and set up hospitals in the Presbyterian Church and “The Bricks” prior to the Battle of Atlanta. It is to Sherman’s credit that the magnificent homes and fine old church were not destroyed, preserving the gracious way of life to be enjoyed by generations to come.
Today, Roswell’s 640+ acres Historic District is filled with tour options:
Barrington Hall, recognized as one of the best examples of Greek Revival Temple Architecture in the United States;
