AMTA Member Memo.

President’s Note

Happy New Year!  I hope that all of you have thawed out from the snow and ice.   Your board and committees have been working hard to get ready to roll out our 2011 Program of Work at our February meeting.  We are hoping for a large turn-out at the meeting and want you to invite your colleagues that you know will find AMTA beneficial.  You will receive an e-vite to forward to all of those great contacts that should be involved in AMTA.   In fact, to make it even more exciting and fun we will be drawing for a free membership (a $195 value), an additional representative (a $50 value) and many other prizes to win (including tickets, gift baskets, etc)!

The February meeting will also include a special presentation from Kevin Langston, Deputy Commissioner for Tourism from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) and information from our own Brittney Gray, Atlanta Regional Representative from GDEcD.

The February meeting will be held at Fernbank on February 2 (click here for more information). Networking begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.  See you there!

Save the Date!

January 25, 2011

Tourism Day at the Capitol is rapidly approaching and we want to show all our newly elected public officials the importance of Tourism.  This year’s theme is TIED – TOURISM IS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT!  I’ve attached an information sheet on the schedule and activities during that day.  Some additional information you’ll need to know.

  • AMTA will have a regional booth at the Tourism Tradeshow.  We will be distributing our regional brochure and profile sheet (no individual promotional pieces please)
  • We need people to staff the booth from 10am-12pm – let me know.
  • We are wearing black & white with an optional Georgia scarf or tie, which can be purchased for $18.  (See attached order form)
  • From 12pm-1pm, we will do “Georgia Sweets & Treats.”  If you have 50-100 packaged food items that you want to bring, please let me know.
  • The Historic Marietta Trolley is willing to provide a shuttle from the Cobb Galleria to the Capitol for a nominal fee (if there is interest).  Contact Collin Cash, Collin@mariettatrolley.com if you’re interested in riding the trolley.  (Sure beats trying to find parking around the Capitol).
  • There is a free Educational Session on Advocacy on Monday, January 24 at 3:30pm in Room 341 at the State Capitol.

Let me know if you have any questions.
